Abu Dhabi: Manchester City used Wednesday’s friendly against Hamburg in Al Ain as an opportunity to showcase some of their emerging young talent, much to the delight of manager Manuel Pellegrini.

The Chilean gave run-outs to Elite Development Squad members George Evans, Bersant Celina and Brandon Barker — all of whom are midfielders — and striker Thierry Ambrose as they rested some star names.

The 20-year-old Evans was arguably the most impressive of the fledgling quartet, delivering a sumptuous long pass to Steven Jovetic to fire home City’s opening goal in their 2-0 victory at Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium.

Pellegrini said of Evans’ fine display: “George is a young player who normally works with us during the week. He’s part of the [Elite Development] squad of Patrick Vieira and he played a very good game with a lot of personality and confidence.

“I know him very well as I work with him during the week in training and I am very happy for him. I am also happy for Celina and Brandon and also for Thierry Ambrose.

“I think Man City enjoys working for young players and you will see some of these players again in these kind of games.”
