San Sebastian, Spain: Real Sociedad beat Levante 3-0 at home on Friday to give coach David Moyes a much-needed win in the final stretch of the Spanish league season.

Sociedad’s first victory in seven rounds provisionally lifted it into 11th place with another three games remaining.

Xabi Prieto set up Sociedad’s opening goal in the 13th minute when the midfielder chipped the ball to Yuri Berchiche, who crossed for striker Alfred Finnbogason to tap home.

With Levante pressing for an equaliser, midfielder Markel Bergara headed in Sociedad’s second goal in the 51st minute from a corner.

Carlos Vela then curled home a free kick four minutes from time for his eighth league goal of the season.

“Knowing that Europe is very far away, our goal is to finish the season on a happy note,” Bergara said after scoring his first goal at Anoeta Stadium in his eighth season with the Basque club.

Levante’s two-game winning streak ended as it stayed in 15th place. The Valencia-based side sits six points above the relegation zone before the rest of the round’s matches are played.

Sociedad visits league leader Barcelona in its next match.
