Jordan's Olympique Club escape to victory

Jordan's Olympique Club, playing their first match in the second Ladies Football Tournament, being organised by the Abu Dhabi Health & Fitness Club, were lucky to pick up full points with a 1-0 win over Lebanon's Batulex.

Abu Dhabi: Jordan's Olympique Club, playing their first match in the second Ladies Football Tournament, being organised by the Abu Dhabi Health & Fitness Club, were lucky to pick up full points with a 1-0 win over Lebanon's Batulex.

In a mediocre encounter, the Lebanese side, who were trounced 10-0 by Amman Club from Jordan in their opening match, lost by an own goal scored by Zainab Kirke.

With this win, Olympique will meet Amman Club and the two Jordan teams will battle it out for group leadership before playing the knockout semifinals.

In the other group, Abu Dhabi Sports Club have made it to the last four with a win and a draw, but will have to wait for the final group game between Boshor Club of Oman and Lebanon's Al Sadika.

Al Sadika have one point and even a draw will see them through, while Boshor Club will have to win to make it into the last four. The annual event is being held under the patronage of Shaikh Hazza Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the Abu Dhabi Health and Fitness Club.

Mahfouz Mohsen, board member of the Abu Dhabi Sports Club and general manager of the ADHFC, said the semifinals will be played tomorrow.

"We have seen a vast improvement in the quality of teams as well as some excellent individual performances," Mohsen commented.

In the other group, Abu Dhabi Sports Club have made it to the last four with a win and a draw, but will have to wait for the final group game between Boshor Club of Oman and Lebanon's Al Sadika.
