Dubai: Al Wasl coach Hector Cuper is convinced it is just a matter of time when Al Wasl turn the corner and starting winning matches.

‘The Cheetahs’ fell at home to a solitary goal defeat against visiting Ajman and continued with their struggle this season. Al Wasl’s sixth win of the season came the previous week when they won 1-0 against fellow strugglers Al Shaab.

However, it has been far from comfortable for new coach Hector Cuper as he continues to build his team with the limited resources at his disposal. “It’s very difficult to speak about the match and the result. We tried our best and really pressed hard to win the match, but we don’t seem to have the luck at the moment,” Cuper told media.

“Day after day we are working on the field and trying to recapture the spirit within the team. But now with results not coming we need to work on our patience,” the Argentinian coach added.

Cuper’s side is, however, not far from the drop zone as they remain in tenth place with 20 points even as Al Shaab (10 points) and Dubai Club (9) lie at the pit.

“I’m not scared about relegation. But is this team not good enough to be in the main league?” he asked.

“This is not the time to speak about relegation. Yes we’ve lost but we need some luck now and we will continue with our work and start winning again,” he confided.

Ajman coach Abdul Wahab Abdul Kader was thrilled after accomplishing his mission of winning the crucial three points.

“Winning the three points was one of our goals and we need to ride on this performance to help improve our situation,” the Iraqi coach said.

“We were missing three key players and we had to do adequately in the defence to rely on quick counters and get a goal,” he added. Ajman made a decent start to the season, but slipped a bit as they hover just above the bottom two teams with 15 points, thanks to three wins and six draws. The most recent big result was a 1-0 win at home against Al Jazira after holding Al Ain to a goalless draw.

“It’s about building up the confidence of the team and taking them to the next step with the hope of continuing with our surge towards the top of the standings,” he said.
