Abu Dhabi: Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance, has criticised the former management of Al Nasr Sports Club in his capacity as its president.

The criticism also focuses on the decision to renew the contract of German head coach Frank Paglesdorf for three years.

The club's performance in the UAE Football League (UFL) has deteriorated greatly and the team, the oldest in the UAE, is placed 10th — only two points above the relegation zone with nine more matches to play.

The club's management renewed the coach's contract after the club defeated Emirates in the second week of the league. A clause in the contract entitles the coach to his full three-year payment even if he is sacked by the club. The amount is said to run into Dh9 million.

Last week, the team lost 4-1 to Emirates and the club announced the termination of Paglesdord's contract. It is seeking a compromise with the coach so he can take only a portion of the three-year salary.

"It was a big mistake to renew the contract of the coach for a long time like three years." Shaikh Hamdan told a local Arabic newspaper on Saturday.

"The management put all the club's affairs into the hands of persons who lacked enough experience and vision. This led to the bad results of the team."
