Dubai: Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Al Ahli Club, yesterday received football player Ahmad Khalil, who was named Best Youth Player in Asia for 2008.
Ahmad, a national team and first Al Ahli team player, achieved the award thanks to the ongoing care of Shaikh Hamdan.
"The title must be a motivation for the player, his colleagues and all athletes in the UAE to keep developing themselves as long as they have the will, confidence and unending support of their wise leadership," Shaikh Hamdan said.
He also praised the good results achieved by the national Under-19s team, who qualified for the World Cup, and the Under 17-s team, who qualified for the 2009 Mondial.
Shaikh Hamdan stressed that these successes are not the ultimate goal for the players.
"Success must be fortified by maintaining the highest levels of moral and physical and psychological skills, especially on playing fields and during matches," he said.
He urged sports leaders at all levels to intensify and join their efforts and work as a team to improve their performance.
