Two fresh faces in Appiah’s squad
Dubai
Al Ain’s Asamoah Gyan will be part of coach Kwesi Appiah’s 21-man Ghana squad for their return fixture against Malawi in the qualifying for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.
Appiah’s squad that includes two fresh call-ups — Espanyol’s Mubarak Wakaso and Asante Kotoko midfielder Daniel Nii Adjei — will line up for their match against Malawi in Lilongwe on October 13.
Gyan, who already has four goals against his name after two weeks of the Etisalat Pro League, will be involved with third week action when Al Ain host Al Dhafrah on October 5.
However, it is unlikely the Ghanaian will be there when Al Ain play Dubai Club on October 9 and Al Wahda on October 14 in their Etisalat Cup preliminary round matches.
A host of stars make a return to the squad as Ghana seek to qualify for next year’s finals in South Africa after winning the first leg 2-0 at home last month.
John Paintsil leads the quintet of players making a return to the squad after his last outing for the national team came in March this year. Also returning to the Black Stars are David Addy, Jonathan Mensah, Rabiu Mohammad and goalkeeper Philemon McCarthy. The Black Stars will camp in Kenya before travelling to Malawi for the game.
