Riyadh: Oman held Iraq to a 1-1 draw in their second Gulf Cup group game at the Prince Faisal Bin Fahd Stadium on Monday.

The result means the UAE, who had earlier drawn 2-2 with Kuwait, could now qualify from the group with a draw in their last game with Iraq if Oman lose their last game with Kuwait.

Kuwait top the group on four points after beating Iraq 1-0 and drawing with the UAE 2-2, the UAE and Oman – who drew 0-0 in their opener – are now level on two points from two draws each, while Iraq are on one point.

Iraq went ahead inside the first quarter after Ali Al Habsi fumbled a save from a corner to tee-up Yassir Kasim for a chip into an open net.

Oman then equalised after the interval when Ali Adnan handled Saad Suhail’s shot in the box and Ahmad Kano slotted the resulting penalty into the bottom left.

Jaber Al Owaisi cleared Humam Tariq’s effort off the line as Iraq went in search of victory. But Oman rallied until the end with Eid Mohammad first hitting over the bar and Said Salim tapping wide.
