Win leaves Dubai in search of one point for survival
Dubai Hassan Mohammad struck twice as relegation threatened Dubai took a massive leap toward safety with a 5-2 win at home to Al Wasl in their penultimate match of the Etisalat Pro League on Friday.
Al Wasl had a 13th minute opener disallowed after Hassan Ali’s shot across goal from the right hit the left post and bounced off Dubai defender Mohammad Esmail to roll over the line. But keeper Jamal Ali’s effort to claw it out of the net had the referee and linesman suitably fooled.
Dubai then monopolised on that oversight on 37 minutes after Aboubacar Camara rounded Waheed Esmail in the box and hit the crossbar only for Hassan Mohammad to bury the follow up bottom left via a deflection off Juan Mercier.
Mohammad Khalatbari restored justice just before half time, receiving left from Rashid Eisa to blast off the underside of the crossbar bouncing down over the line only to confirm its crossing with a rebound off the inside of the left post.
But Dubai re-established control on 61 minutes when Ali Hassan headed Nicolas Marin’s right corner over keeper Rashid Ali’s grasp, flying in off the left upright.
Marin supplied another on 71 minutes beating Hassan Ali and Yasir Salem down the right flank to tap across to Hassan Abdulrahman who put it bottom left beyond the grip of Rashid Ali.
Al Wasl pulled back a second on 82 minutes after a Yasir Salem cross from the left was nodded down by Juan Olivera for Rashid Eisa to clinch a diving header. But Dubai came back strong seconds later with Abbas Atwi denied by the left post.
Simon Feindouno then put Hassan Mohammad through on 86 minutes, for the top-scoring Emirati striker to round the keeper and ease Dubai home, not before a fifth was added by Marin, again supplied by Feindouno touched right on 89 minutes.
his win cements Dubai’s 100 per cent record over Diego Maradona’s Al Wasl this season, defeating the Zabeel outfit four times, twice each in the league and cup, with Wasl conceding 15. Another three points earned at the expense of Maradona’s men, while fellow strugglers Emirates lost 5-3 to Al Nasr, also leaves Dubai needing just a draw from their last game to stay up.
