Dubai: Al Nasr will get two “superstar strikers” thanks to a new shirt sponsorship agreement with container port company, DP World, according to the club’s vice-president Ahmad Al Khoury.
A one-year agreement was signed between Al Khoury and DP World’s UAE senior vice-president and managing director Mohammad Al Muallem on Tuesday.
It follows recent frustrations in the transfer market for Al Nasr after missing out on the signatures of Monaco’s Ebrahima Toure, West Bromwich Albion’s Peter Odemwingie and Malaga’s Roque Santa Cruz.
Al Khoury said: “The relationship will definitely add value financially to the club and hopefully within a couple of weeks, we will be able to confirm the signings of two superstar strikers for Al Nasr.”
Al Nasr, who finished sixth in the UAE Pro-League last season, signed Australian attacking midfielder Brett Holman from Aston Villa in June and retained the services of Brazilian midfielder Leo Lima. But with each club in the UAE allowed just three international players and one Asia-born international, it appears Italian striker Giuseppe Mascara and Brazilian forward Bruno Correa could be on their way.
Strong midfield
Al Khoury added: “The two players coming in are attackers and they will definitely require a strong midfield to support them. Holman and Lima will add a lot of value to support the strikers going forward.
“There has been a delay because our priority was to appoint the head coach [Ivan Jovanovic] and first take his opinion. He listed all the names and we picked two who we will hopefully announce next week.
“They will be European-brand players. Some names have already gone out in the press and they were part of our plan but unfortunately they didn’t go through for one reason or another.
“We are in the final stages of negotiation and it all looks positive. We’ve almost got final approval, we are just waiting on the signing ceremony. We expect good news in the coming days.”
