Dubai: Just days after netting Italian captain Fabio Cannavaro, Dubai's Al Ahli have admitted to trying to secure the services of Juventus skipper Alessandro Del Piero for the club.

A top official at Al Ahli told Gulf News on condition of anonymity that talks with Del Piero were still at an "initial stage" but things could be clear in the next few days.

"The club is in negotiation with Del Piero and we will let the media know in due course of time," the official said.

Italy's La Gazzetta dello Sport reported Thursday that Al Ahli was ready to offer Del Piero a three-year deal worth 2 million euros (Dh13.2 million) per season along with a long list of bonuses depending on results.

Like his Italian counterpart, Del Piero will reportedly get a free villa, a luxury car, airplane tickets to return to Italy once a month, and a 500,000 euro bonus for every 20 games he plays.

The player's management team is currently taking time to deliberate the offer as the New York Red Bulls are also said to be interested in him. Del Piero currently on holiday in the US.

But the feeling from Turin is that Del Piero may want to remain with Juventus for another year.

"Nothing has been finalised as yet, it is too early to comment," the Al Ahli official said.
