Among the finest indoor sports facilities in the city is the one at Dubai Sports City, where professionals and amateurs alike enjoy round-the-year competition. Activities multiply during summer, as despite the rising temperatures outdoors, the air-conditioned indoor facility ensures a full schedule of tournaments for corporates.
One such coming up is the Corporate Football League, to be held from August 4-September 1, over five Mondays across two indoor pitches. It is one of the most popular tournaments of the season and 12 teams divided into two groups will be taking part. The top two teams from each group will make the semi-finals.
Adam Griffiths, Programmes, Tournaments and Development Executive at Dubai Sports City, is overseeing preparations for the much-anticipated tournament and he told XPRESS: “This is the time when things are really exciting here. This tournament is one of the most coveted among corporates and we have heavyweights like Emirates, Lukoil, defending champion Victory Heights and Pepsi taking part.”
Griffiths added that such tournaments are a good exercise for people who have a passion for the game despite being busy with their jobs. “This is a great opportunity for serious football enthusiasts to play competitive football. It’s also a good social exercise.”
This is the fourth season this league is being held, having been a great success over the last three editions. “While this event is for serious footballers, we have corporate tournaments all-round the year which are a mixed bag of competitive and recreational players. We also have the adult social league and the veteran’s league to make sure we cater to all categories of players,” Griffiths said.
