2010 quarterfinal: Argentina 0 Germany 4, Cape Town Stadium

Diego Maradona’s turbulent time in charge of Argentina came to an abrupt halt after his side were taken apart by Germany in the last-eight stage in South Africa.

The Albiceleste fell behind in only the third minute, when Thomas Mueller headed home a Bastian Schweinsteiger free-kick.

Argentina pressed hard for an equaliser, but they couldn’t find a way past Manuel Neuer and were brutally exposed on the counter-attack in the second half. Lukas Podolski set up Miroslav Klose for the second goal on 68 minutes, Arne Friedrich made it 3-0 and Klose completed the rout with a volley from a Mesut Ozil cross.
