Belgium v Russia

Russia, the hosts of the next World Cup, were disappointing in their opening draw with South Korea and only really came to life after the introductions of playmaker Alan Dzagoev and striker Aleksandr Kerzhakov. Coach Fabio Capello will hope key man Dzagoev is fit enough to start against Belgium, who themselves have a selection dilemma after Marouane Fellaini came on and inspired victory over Algeria. Prediction: Belgium 2 Russia 1.

South Korea v Algeria

Algeria can take heart from their show against Belgium, but ultimately a lack of fitness cost them as the Red Devils scored two late goals to take the points. The Greens went into their shells after scoring and looked happy to try and defend their lead rather than build on it. Hopefully we will see a bit more attacking intent from Algeria against a South Korea side that look there for the taking. Prediction: South Korea 1 Algeria 1.

USA v Portugal

Portugal’s campaign  got off to the worst possible start, with several problems adding to their 4-0 beating at the hands of Germany. Captain and talisman Cristiano Ronaldo looked far from full fitness, centre-back Pepe will be suspended after his moment of madness and full-back Fabio Coentrao and striker Hugo Almeida both suffered injuries. They will need a vast improvement if they are to avoid an early exit, but at least remaining opponents USA and Ghana were mostly unimpressive in their opening game. Prediction: USA 1 Portugal 2.
