Dubai: England captain Bobby Moore’s shirt from the iconic post match shirt-exchange and embrace with Brazil legend Pele is on display at Harvey Nichols at Mall of the Emirates until May 20 as part of the store’s ‘Sport is Great’ football fashion campaign in association with Visit Britain.

The shirt from England’s 1-0 defeat to Brazil in Mexico during the 1970 Fifa World Cup is just one of many exhibits from The National Football Museum’s pop-up exhibition to be showcased on level three of the department store.

Fans can also see a life-sized mannequin of Pele, replicas of the English Premier League Trophy and the FA Cup, as well the Ballon D’Or, which was awarded to Manchester United and Northern Ireland legend George Best in 1968.

During the two-month long display, which started on March 20, Harvey Nichols will also be staging meet-and-greets with British football legends, as well as competitions to win signed English Premier League football shirts. The grand prize is a trip for two to the UK courtesy of Virgin Atlantic to watch a live game.

As well as the exhibition, a wide range of football merchandise will be on sale in The National Football Museum Store, including retro football kits and signed shirts in time for the Fifa 2014 World Cup.

Sports tourism is on the rise in Britain with results from a survey conducted by Visit Britain revealing that approximately 750,000 visitors to the UK went to a football match during 2010. Among those, visitors from UAE ranked second after Norway as most likely to attend a football match: one in every 20 do so. Moreover, the UAE ranks in the top five countries, globally, with interest in the Barclay’s Premier League.
