Dubai: Defending champions Al Ahli will start off against Ajman while Al Shabab will take on Dibba Al Hosn on the opening day of the 2013 UAE Beach Soccer League at Al Mamzar Park on Friday. The first match will kick off at 3pm followed by the second one at 4pm.

Now in its second year, the UAE Beach Soccer League has brought together eight teams from Dubai, Sharjah, Fujairah, Ajman and Ras Al Khaimah. Group A is made up of Al Ahli, Ajman, Al Shabab and Dibba Al Hosn, while Group B consists of Al Nasr, Al Wasl, Ittihad Kalba and Fujairah Club.

The UAE Beach Soccer season opened earlier this year with the President’s Cup and that was followed by the Super Cup in November.

Al Nasr had defeated Al Ahli in the President’s Cup final only to see Portuguese star striker Madjer scoring a hat-trick to help Al Ahli thrash Al Nasr 5-1 and lift the Super Cup.

On the second day of the league on Saturday, Al Nasr will play Ittihad Kalba while Al Wasl will face Fujairah Club.

The second round matches will be played on December 14 and 15 and the third round will be held on December 21 and 22.

After the third round, the league will take a break till January 31 so as to allow the UAE national squad to prepare and compete in the Asian leg qualifiers in Doha for the 2013 Fifa Beach Soccer World Cup to be played in Tahiti.

The UAE Beach Soccer League is organised by the Dubai Sports Council under the patronage of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman, DSC.
