Bani Yas' winning streak continues against Al Dhafra

Six points from two games as captain shines

Abu Dhabi : Bani Yas continued their winning streak in the UAE Pro-League (UFL) and defeated Al Dhafra 2-0 to collect six points from two matches, thanks to an outstanding performance from their Omani captain Fawzi Bashir who created the first goal in the 76th minute for his colleague Andre Senghor and scored the second in the 87th.

"It is not important who scores as far as our team keep winning matches," Bashir told Gulf News after the match. "All the players have done their best and we are determined to achieve a brilliant result this season."

Asked about the team's failure to score in the first half despite taking full command of the action, Bashir said: "We squandered many sitters because of lack of concentration in the final touch and also because of the outstanding form of the Al Dhafra custodian [Mohammad Hussain] who played an excellent match and saved many dangerous chances.

"In the second half we had more focus and concentration and were successful in scoring two goals while keeping our net clean for the second successive match. I believe we are qualified to take a top position and compete for the title this season."

Mohammad Salem, the captain of Al Dhafra, was not happy.

"We did not play as a team because we missed the services of our gifted midfielder Mohammad Binrabah who left to join the Moroccan team. Binrabah led us to win the first match against Al Ahli as he was brilliant in connecting defence with attack and he played a big role in our two goals.

"We had some chances but we did not score from them and when you lose your chances you can't win matches. I am sure that we can do better in our next matches," Salem added.
