Kolkata: Bangladesh skipper Mamunul Islam signed up for Indian Super League (ISL) franchise Atletico de Kolkata at a ceremony in Dhaka on Saturday.

“This is an important milestone in my career. I am really excited about joining Atletico de Kolkata, the team that will transgress boundaries and bring both sides of Bengal closer,” said the central midfielder, who also skippers Bangladesh Premier League champions Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club.

The signing event was attended by Bangladesh Football Federation president Kazi Salahuddin and Manjur Kader of Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club among others.

“This is a brilliant opportunity for Mamunul and we are ecstatic about this development. When he takes the field for Atletico de Kolkata, he will carry the passion of fans from entire Bangladesh,” said Kader.

The Sourav Ganguly co-owned team is currently training at the Los Angeles de San Rafael training ground in Segovia, Spain, and are slated to take on Mumbai City FC in the opening game of the inaugural ISL at the Salt Lake Stadium here on October 12.
