DUBAI: Al Wasl coach Jorginho is looking to get his first win of the new Arabian Gulf League season at home to bottom side Ittihad Kalba on Sunday.

The Cheetahs have drawn 2-2 at home to Al Dhafra and 0-0 away to Al Nasr either side of defeats away to Al Ain and at home to Al Ahli in the first four games of the season.

The Zabeel Stadium outfit are now eyeing victory over Kalba, who have lost three matches and drawn one, to get them out of the relegation zone.

“There are no easy matches,” said Jorginho. “And against Kalba we need to stay focused. They did well in their last game against Al Shabab and were unlucky to lose 2-0, so we must be serious in our approach.

“It was important for us to get a 0-0 draw against Al Nasr in our last game to improve our classification in the league, but we need to improve our positions in the standings further over the next couple of games.

“I feel we will do well because we are increasing our production and improving our performances.”

The Brazilian 1994 World Cup-winner added that playing rock-bottom Kalba at home was the perfect chance to get their season back on track after a difficult start.

“Obviously Al Ain and Al Ahli are the two best teams in the UAE right now,” he said. “And even though there are no easy teams, we expect to get three points against Kalba and will do everything we can to try and achieve that.”

Asked if a club the size of Al Wasl belonged at the foot of the table, under-fire Jorginho replied: “We are still only four matches into the season and it is far too early to judge.

“With three points on top of our current two, and with a couple of wins under our belt, we could go straight up the table, so I don’t think there’s a problem. Even though we are a big club in the UAE and we don’t like the position we are in, I’m sure we will improve over the next couple of matches, because both the team and coaching staff are ready to do just that.”
