Abu Dhabi: Peruvian winger Jefferson Farfan has expressed his delight at completing his long-awaited move to Al Jazira from German Bundesliga side Schalke on Thursday (July 23).

Th 30-year-old has inked a three-year deal with last year's Arabian Gulf League runners-up worth €6 million (Dhs 24.23m) over two years, earning him a reported €3m (Dh12.12m) a year.

The Peru international, who has scored 17 times in 63 appearances for his country since 2003 and played in last month's Copa America in Chile, has joined his teammates on their pre-season tour of Austria.

After passing a medical on Wednesday, Farfan completed the formalities of his signing on Thursday and said: “I'm happy to join the club and help them to triumphs with my fellow players.”

Farfan, who scored 53 goals for Schalke since joining them from PSV Eindhoven in 2008, is the club's fifth summer signing.

The other quartet – Brazilian attacking midfielder Thiago Neves, South Korean midfielder Park Jong-woo, and Emirati defender Fares Juma and goalkeeper Saif Rashed – were unveiled by the club at a press conference last week.

But these arrivals have led to the exit of the Argentinian playmaker Manuel Lanzini on a season-long loan to West Ham United, while Burkina Faso winger Jonathan Pitroipa will also leave for pastures new.
