Dubai: Luis Garcia’s Bani Yas appear to have turned a corner after recording their fourth successive win, 2-1 at home to Emirates Club in the second group match of the Arabian Gulf Cup on Wednesday.

The Sky Blues got off to a torrid start to the Arabian Gulf League with just three points from the first six games of the season, also losing their opening Cup opener away to Sharjah last month.

However, their form has since picked up. Haboush Saleh and Denis Stracqualursi put the hosts in control before the half-hour, although Jamal Maroof pulled one back after the interval.

Elsewhere, Al Shabab consolidated their lead at the top of Group A with a 2-0 win away to Ittihad Kalba. Goals in either half from Edgar Bruno and Azizbek Haydarov left Al Shabab on top of the pool after their opening 3-0 win at home to Al Wasl last month.

Struggling Al Wasl drew 1-1 at home to Ajman after Fabio de Lima cancelled out Mansour Abbas’ first-half strike.

Al Wasl have struggled so far this season, with just two wins from their first eight league matches, but they appear to have improved since Gabriel Calderon replaced Jorginho as coach last month.
