Dubai: Al Wasl Football Company has appointed Ammar Awad, as sporting director in accordance with the instructions and recommendations given by the Dubai Sports Council to all football clubs in the emirate.

The latest addition further reinforces the club following the appointment of former Barcelona development officer Albert Benaiges to head the Al Wasl Academy, Diego Maradona as first team coach and Ali Hassan as his assistant.

"A strong management is the backbone to a strong team and that is why we have dedicated our efforts towards securing individuals who will support the team as they lead us to future championships. We are happy to have Ammar on board for his extensive knowledge and experience that we are confident will be an asset to the club," said Marwan Bin Bayat, Chairman of Al Wasl Football Company.

Ammar, a Syrian-Canadian, has been brought on to analyse and dissect current strategies and suggestions for improvement. He will also be the link between the board of directors and the technical team managing the football team.

With over 25 years' local and international experience, he has been responsible for setting up management training programmes for various football clubs and for recruiting skilled players. He has had extensive practice coaching for a number of clubs in Canada and Syria, and in Abu Dhabi where he was part of the management team for Al Wahda Club.

A former football commentator for various Arabic channels, he also has experience in sports analysis.

"The club is continuously looking for skilled and talented figures both on the pitch and off the pitch to be part of our journey towards victory next year," Bin Bayat added.
