Abu Dhabi: Al Nasr regained the lead in the Etisalat Pro-League, which they lost last week, after beating Al Shaab 2-1 yesterday in the sixth week of the competition.
The Blue Wave took over at the top from Al Wahda, who in turn had taken the spot from Bani Yas by beating them 2-0 late on Saturday.
Al Nasr increased their tally to 14 points, one more than reigning champions Al Ain, who trounced Al Wasl 5-0 in one of the UAE’s oldest derbies. The result was the biggest for Al Ain in 76 encounters and the catastrophic loss was Al Wasl’s first in the league this season.
Al Wahda’s reign as leaders lasted just 24 hours, but it was enough to prove the progress of the team following their poor spell at the start of the campaign.
Week six saw a great improvement in the standards of Ajman, who achieved their first league win when beating Al Ittihad 6-1.
Dubai forced Al Ahli to settle for a 1-1 tie while Al Dhafra continued collecting points to escape from the lower part of the table by holding Al Shabab to a draw.
Al Jazira returned to their winning ways by trouncing Dibba 4-0.
Asamoah Gyan of Al Ain scored twice to lead the top scorers chart with 12 in 6 matches, one more than Grafite of Al Ahli, who missed his team’s match against Dubai.
Meanwhile, in the fallout after Al Ittihad’s loss to Ajman, a brawl with Moroccan striker Nabil Al Daoudi prompted the sacking of Hassan Saeed from his post as team administrator. Saeed, a former striker for the team and the UAE, and Al Ittihad captain Gregory du Frenice were in turn attacked by angry fans after the match.
