Dubai: Al Nasr topped Group C of the GCC Champions League (GCC CL) and qualified for the quarter-finals despite a goalless draw at home to Bahrain’s Al Busaiteen in their final group game on Tuesday.

The Blue Wave had previously beaten Qatar’s Al Khor 5-0 at home and drawn 2-2 away to the Qataris either side of a 1-0 win away to Al Busaiteen.

Meanwhile, Al Shabab finished joint leaders of Group B with Bahrain’s Al Muharraq after a 2-1 win away to the Bahraini club on Tuesday. Carlos Villanueva’s penalty and Adeilson’s late winner cancelled out Hussain Ali Ahmad’s first-half opener from the spot.

Al Shabab had earlier drawn 1-1 away to Saudi Arabia’s Al Shoalah and beat the Saudi’s 1-0 at home after a 1-0 loss at home to Al Muharraq.

According to goalzz.com, Al Nasr will now play Kuwait’s Al Jahra at home in the first of the quarter-finals next Tuesday and Al Shabab will travel to either Oman’s Al Nahda or Qatar’s Al Khuraitiat on Wednesday, depending on late results from Group D.

This is Al Shabab’s sixth GCC Champions League appearance in 21 editions of the competition. They won the tournament in 1992 and 2011. Meanwhile, Al Nasr have only made one previous appearance, back in 1987.
