Muscat: Ali Al Habsi has appealed to Omani fans to get behind the national team in their forthcoming push for 2014 Fifa World Cup qualification by donning the sultanate's new kit.
The redesigned strip and logo, launched yesterday, comes as the Oman national team prepare for the fourth and final stage of World Cup qualification, just two weeks after their under-23 team failed to progress to the London Olympics after a 2-0 loss to Senegal.
The kit has been created to showcase the colours of the Omani flag and all the profits generated from its sales will be injected into grass-roots football.
Wigan and Oman keeper Al Habsi said: "Our iconic new kit has been designed firmly with both the team and the fans in mind.
"The new jersey reflects the colours of the Omani flag and is a great symbol of national pride.
"As we enter the most exciting period in Oman's football history I hope that all the fans will get behind the team."
Sayyid Khalid Bin Hamad Al Busaidi, OFA chairman, added: "This is a very exciting time for the Oman national team and the Omani community and this launch marks yet another milestone ahead of the highly anticipated 2014 World Cup qualifiers happening in June."
