Dubai: Lt General Shaikh Ahmad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Head of Dubai Police and Public Security and the president of Al Wasl Club, has honoured the Al Wasl football team with Dh3 million as a reward for winning the President's Cup.

Al Wasl beat Al Ain 4-1 in the final at Zayed Sports City Stadium in Abu Dhabi last week. Shaikh Ahmad also honoured the basketball team with Dh1 million and the athletics team with Dh1 million for their achievements this season.

Shaikh Ahmad, who visited the club on Saturday, met the players and the team coach and his assistants at the stadium before their training session in preparation for the team's tough First Division League match against Al Shabab today.

He congratulated the players and praised their efforts in helping the club return to winning ways. He urged the team to clinch the league title for the seventh time.

"Winning the league is not something strange for Al Wasl. You showed an excellent performance in the President's Cup and you deserved to win it," Shaikh Ahmad told the players.

He asked the players not to be complacent after winning the President's Cup.

"I want you to continue with the same fighting spirit in the remaining league matches to add it to the Cup and win the double.

"Also I want you to think how to win each match, separately, until we achieve our objective of winning the title," Shaikh Ahmad said.

Shaikh Ahmad praised the role played by team coach, Brazilian Ze Mario and asked the players to benefit from his vast experience.

"The visit of Shaikh Ahmad and his continuous support will encourage the players to achieve more success," said Rashid Balhoul, the Al Wasl board of directors chairman.
