Manchester: Sergio Aguero looks likely to become embroiled in a club-versus-country row after Argentina called up the Manchester City striker despite the knee injury he suffered on the opening day of the season.
City’s manager, Roberto Mancini, has said the player would not be fit until the middle of September which would be after the international break during which games take place from 7-12 September.
However the Argentina manager, Alejandro Sabella, has selected the 24-year-old for the World Cup qualifiers against Paraguay and Peru early next month.
Aguero sustained a knee injury in City’s opening Premier League match against Southampton on Sunday and Mancini has earmarked him for a comeback in their game at Stoke City on 15 September.
Aguero’s City team-mate Carlos Tevez is not in the squad for the two games, which sees Argentina host Paraguay in Cordoba on 7 September and then travel to face Peru in Lima on 11 September.
