Dubai: Football fans in the UAE and around the Arab world can watch the build-up to the 2016 Uefa European Championship on Abu Dhabi Sports after the network won the exclusive rights to broadcast all qualifying matches.

The qualifying games for Europe’s major international tournament will run from Sunday to October next year. Abu Dhabi Sports will provide analysis from experts live from its studios in Europe and the UAE — and all matches will have commentary in both English and Arabic.

This tournament has just been expanded and will feature more teams in qualifying and the finals in France in 2016. And a new system named ‘Football Week’ means eight to ten games will be played from Thursday to Tuesday on qualifying weeks, enabling fans to view more high-profile matches.

The first week sees 24 matches being held between Sunday and Tuesday, with the games between Germany and Scotland, England and Switzerland, and the Netherlands and Czech Republic among the highlights.

Mohammad Ebrahim Al Mahmoud, Chairman and Managing Director of Abu Dhabi Media, said: “Winning the rights to broadcast the 2016 Uefa European Championship Qualifiers in the Middle East was a top priority because of the excitement it would bring to our football fans.

“Our partnership with Uefa enhances Abu Dhabi Sports’ work to entertain our viewers. We use the latest technology and the best expertise to deliver the highest standards of coverage to our viewers.

“Through our live coverage and dedicated team of analysts, correspondents and commentators, we aim to present a new perspective of football to all our viewers. We chose our team in Abu Dhabi and Europe based on the added value that they will bring to all our viewers.”
