Mumbai: Yograj Singh, former international cricketer and father of cancer-survivor Yuvraj Singh, is undergoing treatment for the dreaded disease in the US. He will return to India in the first week of July and will be accompanied by his son Victor, son of Yograj’s second wife Satveer, on the trip.

Speaking exclusively over phone, Vicky [Victor Singh, who prefers to be known as ‘Vicky’] said: “I am leaving for USA on June 9 and will stay with my father in USA and we both will return in the first week of July”.

Satveer Kaur (also known as Meena) has stayed back in India to look after their two children and Yograj, who has now been discharged from the hospital, is staying in his sister-in-law’s house in Madison, Mississipi. “Dad underwent surgery and is on his way to recovery. He is not required chemotherapy”, his son added.

Yuvraj, son of Yograj’s estranged first wife Shabnam, is believed to have suggested the name of his doctor Dr Lawrence H Einhorn for the treatment. “Well, I believe that doctor has retired and that he specialised in that specific form of cancer that Yuvi suffered from. My dad, instead of going to Indianapolis, got himself treated in New York,” Victor added. The Indian all-rounder and Vicky are in regular contact though with each other. “Yes, I am in touch with him [Yuvraj], who was also well supported by our dad during his difficult times”, added Vicky. “I don’t play any games professionally but play basketball for a hobby”, said Vicky.

“My dad is a very strong man and he will surely come out of the nightmare”, he said.

Yograj had married Satveer after divorcing his first wife Shabnam, whose sons are Yuvraj and Zorawar.
