Perth: Every time an associate country plays a Test playing nation, the biggest topic of discussion is should next world cup be reduced to ten nations.

Most nations have been supportive of maintaining the status quo. However, when Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni was dragged into it, he curtly remarked: “There’s plenty of stuff on my table. We’ll let the International Cricket Council (ICC) decide it. They should also do a bit of work, so let them sit in their air conditioned room and decide whether the associate nation needs to play in the World Cup or not because that’s what they come up with. So the bunch of people that will sit in the hall will decide whether or not it’s good for cricket,”

Reporters did not leave UAE skipper Mohammad Tauqir too asking him whether such poor performance against India will go against the campaign of not reducing the teams in the World Cup. Tauqir replied saying: “We had two good games, and probably one of the innings which we would like to forget and erase this game as soon as possible and would like to do well in the next three games.”

When Dhoni was asked whether to give exposure to the UAE team, India will be ready to play them, he totally ruled out any chance of India playing UAE regularly. He candidly said that all his players are already playing plenty of cricket.

Answering to a query whether UAE must play stronger teams to improve and whether he sees India playing them soon, Dhoni bluntly said: “Not against India. I don’t see even a few days off to play any more cricket than what we play now. If you see the top cricket nations they have a calendar of 12 months in which they play a lot of Test matches and ODIs. Our calendar is nine and a half months because two and a half months we play IPL and Champions League and still we match every other Test playing nation.”

Wanting his players not be suffering from fatigue, he said: “A lot of our players get criticised, and a lot is said about our bowlers are not fit enough but it’s the same set of players that play all the formats, Test cricket, ODI and T20, then to go back and play Champions League and IPL. So looking at the workload, I wouldn’t be surprised to say it’s our bowlers were amongst the fittest because of the amount of cricket that they play, and yet coming up for every game and performing, it is difficult.”

Dhoni also revealed that players also need to play for their state “Do not forget when they get a break, they get a call from their local states to play for their team, and there’s no number of overs that they have to bowl. When the India bowler comes, you give the ball and you forget one side. It’s a difficult one. So we’ll have to formulate a way, but please, not India. I don’t see India playing any more games. We can’t, unless we play two games in one day, which is just not possible, because you want to keep the quality up.”
