**It was the fifth time Afghanistan (232) registered a 200-plus score against a Test playing nation. However it must be noted that the first four were registered against Zimbabwe (3 times) and once against Bangladesh.

** Sri Lanka conceded 23 extras, though this is not the most they have conceded in an ODI. They had conceded 44 to Pakistan at Sharjah (20-12-1990). The highest they have conceded to an associate nation remains 38 (292) to Netherlands 16-9-2002,

** The 88 run third-wicket stand between Asghar Stanikzai & Samiullah Shenwari is Afghanistan’s best against the “top 8” Test teams. Their previous best was 86 for the 5th wkt between Stanikzai & Mohammad Nabi at Sharjah (28-8-12)

** Asghar Stankzai has now been involved in 16 fifty plus partnerships for Afghanistan in ODI’s, the most by any player for the side. The next best being 14 by Nawroz Mangal. Stankzai also has 1 century stand to his credit.

** Not since 1999 have two openers been dismissed for “ducks” in a World Cup match. The Sri Lankan openers provided the fourth such instance in World Cup history. Brian Patterson/Ian Philip for Scotland vs Pakistan at Chester-le-street were the last to do so.

** It was also the first time Afghanistan claimed a wicket of the very first ball of their innings.

** When on 25, Mahela Jayawardene became the 15th player to score 1000 runs in the World Cups. He is the fourth Sri Lankan after Jayasuriya, Aravinda deSilva and Sangakkara to do so.
