Perth: The toss at Friday’s match between India and the West Indies will see a master come up against his pupil, as Chennai Super Kings teammates Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Jason Holder go face-to-face.

India’s Dhoni has captained West Indies’ Holder in the Indian Premier League and the young Caribbean skipper has revealed he learned a lot from his vastly experienced teammate.

When asked about his experience of playing under Dhoni, Holder said: “I’ve picked up a lot from Dhoni. He’s a good leader. He’s a guy who is respected in the dressing room.

“Going about my career I tend to look at a few players and look at a few things people do, not particularly Dhoni, but successful players who have played cricket before. I just try to take bits and pieces from everybody and try to put it together into one.”

Answering to a query from Gulf News on what he has picked up from legendary batsman Clive Lloyd, who is chief selector of the West Indies and is here travelling with the team, Holder said: “We all had numerous chats with him, one-on-one. He has imparted his knowledge amongst the entire group.

“He’s a very knowledgeable guy and has been successful before, so his opinions go a long way and his expertise goes a long way, so the guys really cherish it.”
