Woolmer's death 'suspicious'

Jamaican police have said that they are treating the death of Pakistan cricket coach Bob Woolmer as 'suspicious' and have enough information to warrant a full investigation.

Kingston: Jamaican police have said that they are treating the death of Pakistan cricket coach Bob Woolmer as ‘suspicious'.

A post mortem carried out to find the cause of death has proved inconlusive and a police spokesman said there was enough evidence to warrant a full investigation into the 58-year-old's death.

Woolmer died on Sunday, just hours after his Pakistan side were knocked out of the cricket world cup after losing to minnows Ireland.

It was reported that Woolmer, who was diabetic, was found unconscious with blood and vomit all around him as well as on the walls.

A statement from Jamaican police constabulary said the post mortem had proved inconclusive.

It added: "Having met with the pathologist, other medical personnel and investigators there is now sufficient information to continue a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Mr. Woolmer, which we are now treating as suspicious."

However, Mark Shields, deputy commissioner of the Jamaican constabulary played down questions asking whether it was being treated as a murder inquiry.

He also added that they were working towards repatriating Woolmer's body back to his home in South Africa as soon as possible.
