Sharjah: UAE national team skipper Khurram Khan hogged the limelight in a thrilling match, which saw his team win a super-over contest at the Kerala Cricket League (KCL) Twenty20 tournament at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Sunday night.

Khan’s all-round performance ensured a victory for Alleppey Amigos over Travancore Maharajas after both the teams scored 141 for 7 in the 20 overs.

Speaking to Gulf News after bagging the Man of the Match award, Khurram Khan said: “It was great feeling to be involved in a match that led to a super over. The fact that I bowled the super over and ensured the victory made it very special. It was my first match in the KCL and the standard I experienced was very high.”

Khan conceded only three runs and claimed two wickets in the super over. Earlier, Khan sparkled with the bat to top score with 43 runs off 35 balls with five boundaries and a six. Vikrant Shetty too chipped in with 22 runs.

Chasing Alleppey’s total Travancore opener Foxtus cracked 37 from 21 balls with four boundaries and two sixes. With Vinod too hitting 31 runs off 42 balls, Travancore were sailing towards an easy win when Khan checked the run flow bagging three wickets.

In another match, KTDC Wayanad Warriors defeated Kalpakavadi Restaurant City Cricketers by 24 runs. UAE’s star batsman Saqib Ali sparkled for Wayanad with 59 runs off 44 balls with five fours and a six, with Mohammad Iqbal top-scoring with 64 runs off 60 balls with five fours and two sixers to post 155 for 5 runs.

City Cricketers chased well through a fighting 50 from Aman but his knock went in vain. Prasanth bagged three wickets to restrict City Cricketers to 131 for 6.
