Sharjah: The UAE will host the Asia Cup Under-19 tournament involving Test-playing nations India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka and associate nations Afghanistan, Nepal, Malaysia and the UAE.

The event, which was organised by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), will be held from December 26 to January 5.

David East, the Chief Executive Officer of the Emirates Cricket Board, said: “We are delighted that the ACC has honoured us with the opportunity to host this prestigious event. We are sure that it will provide an excellent opportunity for our regional teams to acclimatise to the conditions here in the UAE, and also showcase our three wonderful international venues.”

The UAE will also host the International Cricket Council Under-19 World Cup from February next year and the eight-nation ACC tournament will provide an opportunity for the teams to get used to the conditions.

The ACC Under-19 matches will be held at Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi, Dubai International Stadium and Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

The last edition of the Asia Cup Under-19 tournament was held in Malaysia and the final between India and Pakistan ended in a tie.

Ashraful Huq, the CEO of Asian Cricket Council, said in a statement: “We are delighted to host the U-19 Asia Cup in the UAE and we thank the Emirates Cricket Board for their commitment to cricket in the region. I wish all the participating teams a successful event.”
