Takreer shock UBL to take top spot

Five score centuries in UAE Exchange Twenty20 tournament

Abu Dhabi: Fancied United Bank Limited (UBL) suffered a second defeat and are in danger of making an exit at the group stage in the UAE Exchange Centre Twenty20 Cup cricket event.

The bankers with three UAE internationals — Amjad Ali, Naeem Al Deen Aslam and Ahmad Raza — went down to Takreer, who notched up their second successive win in Group F.

Mohammad Khalid took four for 35 to restrict the strong UBL batting to 141 for eight. Takreer in reply knocked off the winning runs for the loss of four wickets with 10 deliveries to spare.

Meanwhile, five centuries — Kashif Butt (132), Chatura Deshapriya (125), Ashraf Haider (171), Rahman Gul (100) Ijaz Bashir (112) and Malek Atif’s five wickets for seven runs for Adma-Opco — were the highlights of the weekend.

Mustaq Ahmad took six for 13 for Waziristan yet they ended on the losing side to Ace, who bowled them out for 75.

Ace 147 for 9 in 20 overs (Assad Saghir 57, Mushtaq Ahmad 6-13) bt Waziristan: 75 all out in 17 overs (Bilal Suleman 3-2).

Royal Gymkhana: 93 for 2 in 6.2 overs (Faisal Mustafa 42) bt Desire 90 all out in 14.5 overs (Asif Ghouri 4-27, Waseem Shehzada 3-22).
