Strauss admits keeping a diary helps him to think with clarity
England's star batsman Andrew Strauss says he owes much of his success to his diary.
Jaipur: England's star batsman Andrew Strauss says he owes much of his success to his diary.
Strauss, who acted as stand-in captain for England in the series against Pakistan, revealed that he maintains a regular diary since it helps him clarify his thoughts.
"It takes me less than 10 minutes a day to write it and I carry my diary everywhere I go," said Strauss.
"I put my thoughts on paper and that helps me analyse myself."
Strauss keeps the diary in his kit bag and makes notes whenever he gets the time.
On the numerous other benefits of writing a diary, Strauss said, "Writing a diary is a batting aid and it helps me to recall many of my innings."
Prickly topic
Little surprise then that he has also recently published a book titled Coming into Play: My life in Test Cricket.
Strauss was England's captain when the infamous ball-tampering incident took place at The Oval.
"It's a prickly topic. I feel Hair is a very good umpire. He is very firm and sticks to his guns," he says of the incident that opened up a can of worms.
Asked if he was upset at having to hand over the captaincy back to Flintoff, despite leading England against Pakistan very intelligently Strauss said: "I will always give my 100 per cent for my captain."
Strauss also enjoyed playing under Michael Vaughan's captaincy.
"Michael's success is his relationship with the players. He managed to instil confidence in the players," he feels.
