Dubai: The third edition of the Gulf Super Sixes will give UAE’s corporate teams an opportunity to play alongside the world’s greatest fielder Jonty Rhodes of South Africa. Organisers Crayons Communications, who have always flown in international legends of the game to take part in the tournament, have roped in not only Rhodes but also one of the world’s finest left arm pacer, Sri Lanka’s Chaminda Vaas, and former South African captain and all-rounder Shaun Pollock for the third edition.

“It will be yet another opportunity for teams to play alongside legends like Rhodes and I am delighted that the tournament is getting better every year,” remarked Wasim Akram, the brand ambassador of the event who will also play for one of the teams.

Crayons Communications CEO Arshad Zaheer said they would announce four more legends that will play in this tournament.

“Forty eight teams from the various UAE emirates will compete from November 30 to December 14,” said Zaheer.

“Each of the last eight teams will be assigned a cricket legend. We will also bring out a coffee table book titled Beyond the Boundary — a visually-oriented documentation of participants, supporters and key moments of the tournament to be presented to participating companies and sponsors,” he added.

The tournament, held under the auspices of the Dubai Cricket Council (DCC), has received sponsorship support from Gulf Oil and Landmark Group.

“We congratulate the vision of this tournament and will support their initiative to emerge as a world-wide popular tournament,” said Mohammad Lokhandwala, secretary of the DCC. The matches will be held at the International Cricket Council Global Cricket Academy and the final on December 14 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Last year Sanath Jayasuriya, Muttiah Muralitharan, Nayan Mongia, Vinod Kambli, Maninder Singh and Imran Nazir played for the different teams in the tournament with Yogi Group emerging as the champions.
