Dubai: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to improve their domestic cricket through the appointment of a task team made up of top former cricketers.

Zaka Ashraf, the new chairman of the PCB has taken the initiative to strength the domestic cricket structure by appointing Intikhab Alam as the chairman of the domestic cricket task team.

Alam, who is also the Director of Cricket Operations (International), was in Dubai to oversee the facilities for the Pakistan's series against England set to commence from January 17.

Team includes greats

The task team includes greats like Javed Miandad, Zaheer Abbas, Sarfraz Nawaz, Imtiaz Ahmed, Moin Khan and Iqbal Qasim as members. The PCB also contacted Wasim Akram to be a member but he excused himself because of his pre-scheduled professional commitments.

The immediate plan of the task team will be to study and review the existing structure of domestic cricket considering its weaknesses and strengths and will propose any changes, if they feel that is required.

According to the PCB, the task team will meet as many times as they consider appropriate to undertake the study and review.

Pakistan set to climb up the ranks

Pakistan after series triumph over Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh is set to climb up the ranking and a series win over England in UAE can help them clinch a place among the top teams in the International Cricket Council ranking. Currently, Pakistan is in ranked sixth in Test rankings and fifth in One Day Internationals ranking.

The PCB also made it clear that the task team will have a recommendatory role and the recommendations will not be binding on PCB. They will assist PCB in evaluating the domestic cricket and its structures. The task team will submit its recommendations to the PCB within two months of its formulation.
