Dubai: Najam Sethi, chief of Pakistan Super League, who conceptualised the tournament hailed the six captains of the third edition of the event as inspirational leaders.

Sethi called Darren Sammy, the captain of the Peshawar Zalmi team, a superstar. “Sammy is a superstar back in Pakistan. We are indebted to him for the courage with which he came to Lahore, stood there and won the hearts of everyone. He is a household name in Pakistan,” he said.

Sethi went on to address Misbah UL Haq, the captain of the Islamabad United, as Pakistan’s greatest captain. “He is possibly the greatest captain, certainly as far as statistics are concerned one of the greatest captains of the Pakistan cricket team. Apart from the laurels that he has piled up at his doorstep — there is a mountain of them — he is a unique man. I haven’t met a more humble person and a truer gentleman. He epitomises the phrase that cricket is a gentleman’s game. I hope other captains emulate him.”

Sethi called Shoaib Malek, who will lead new team Multan Sultans as the mainstay of Pakistan batting. He went on to thank Lahore Qalandars’ captain Brendon McCullum for taking interest in PSL and said: McCullum is looking fit as ever and is a wonderful sportsman.”

Sethi also had a word of praise for Imad Wasim, the young captain of Karachi Kings. “Imad is one of our most talented all-rounders. If he can lift the silverware with Karachi this year, I tell you he is in our sight to maybe lead Pakistan in the future.”

Sethi finally hailed Sarfraz Ahmad, the captain of Quetta Gladiators. “He is a man who brought untold joy and ecstasy by winning the Champions Trophy. If someone can lead the Green Shirts, they can lead any side in the world.”
