Dubai: Adam Gilchrist, the former Australian wicketkeeper-batsman says he doesn’t think the Australian cricket team is a soft touch following their series defeat to India.

Speaking at a conference at University of Wollongong in Dubai, to announce his promotional tour of the UAE as the institution’s ambassador, Gilchrist said, “There’s no problem with Australia. They are still one of the best teams in the world.”

“If you take eight or nine core players out of the team from the previous era it’s obviously going to be difficult. But I don’t see them as a soft touch or an easy beat, far from it.”

Gilchrist admitted having won this series would have buoyed confidence ahead of the forthcoming Ashes Series but added, “come day one at Brisbane [the fact that they missed this chance of lost momentum] will be completely out of their minds.”

Now captain of the IPL team Deccan Chargers, Gilchirst congratulated India on their number one world ranking but said he doesn’t seem them over-dominating the international cricket scene with the top teams still very evenly matched.
