Ajman: The ninth edition of the popular Dr Sunny's Medical Centre AKCC cricket tournament was inaugurated at the Ajman Cricket Council grounds yesterday.
The event is being held under the auspices of the Ajman Cricket Council ground at its newly built grounds. Six matches were held on the opening day.
The inauguration was followed by a match between Consolidated Shipping Services and Club Karson.
"I am delighted to see the tournament being staged for the ninth consecutive time since its inception in 1998," remarked Dr Sunny Kurien, the Managing Director of the Dr. Sunny's Medical Centre, Sharjah.
Twenty teams are participating in the tournament including hosts AKCC team.
The matches will be played on a league, quarterfinals, semifinals and final format .
The winner will receive the Dr. Sunny Medical Centre AKCC Cricket Tournament Trophy together with prize money.
The runner-up will also get a trophy and prize money.
There will be special trophies for the best Player of the tournament, best batsman as well as best bowler. Man of the match will be given away after every match.
Meanwhile, a seven-a-side cricket festival will take place on the Seven Seas ground on December 2.
Eight B-division teams will participate in this tournament.
The event is being organised by Khanshab and Seven Seas Sports Club. Lunch and refreshments will be provided to all participating teams.
