Arun scores 16 points to lead team to victory over JSS International School

Dubai: New Indian Model School (NIMS), Sharjah, emerged as champions in the JSS International School's Naland Memorial Inter-school Basketball Tournament.

In the final, NIMS defeated hosts JSS 32-11.

Abhildev Arun was the best player in NIMS' triumph with a sterling performance, scoring 16 points. He was rightly adjudged the Player of the Tournament.

Tom Thomas, former junior international basketball player and president of the Indian Basketball Society, was the chief guest.

He said: "A basketball team is like the five fingers on your hand. If you can get them all together, you have a fist. That's how I want you all to play."

Exciting win

G. C. Rao, Principal, JSS International School, and Guruswami Kalloor, CEO, JSS Dubai, were also present at the prize distribution.

JSS qualified to play in the final via an exciting 25-20 win over Delhi Private School, Dubai.

Jacob C. George of JSS hogged the limelight scoring 14 points. In the other semi-final match, NIMS stopped The Indian High School, Dubai 28-20. Umer of New Indian High School scored 10 points to ensure the victory.

The tournament was organised in memory of their Grade 5 student Naland, who passed away in a plane crash in Mangalore two years ago. "This tournament will be held every year," Kalloor said.
