Dubai:

A cricket tournament will stage its 24th edition on December 2. The UAE National Day seven-a-side cricket tournament which has been held for 24 years without a break will be held again at the Seven Seas Sports Ground on December 2.

Speaking to Gulf News, Tariq Butt, the chief organiser and UAE umpire, said: “This tournament commenced in the ’80s and was first held at the Dubai Cricket Association ground behind Rashid Hospital. This ground is no longer there but we made sure that this tournament is held everywhere.”

This tournament has now been supported by Freddy Sidhwa of Seven Seas and Deepak Arora of City Diamond for the last 11 years.

“The tournament will be held on UAE National Day like a festival. About 16 B division teams take part in this one-day tournament. It is basically aimed to unite all nationalities and enjoy a game of cricket,” added Butt.

It is the 41st National Day and with the backing of Dubai Cricket Council this one-day tournament will commence early. Only B division teams will be allowed to play in the event. Attractive prizes and even refreshments are distributed to the participants.
