Abu Dhabi: West Indies star batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul loves to use a light bat with a thick bottom.

Soon after arriving in Abu Dhabi the West Indies team asked their Liaison Officer Mohammad Islam if they could buy good cricket bats in the city.

Islam, who plays for Abu Dhabi Gymkhana, knew the shops that sold quality cricket equipment and he contacted Jasapara Sports in Dubai.

Gopal Jasapara, a former Ranji Trophy players and prolific scorer in domestic cricket, is the director of Jasapara Sports and he rushed to Abu Dhabi with various bats and pieces of cricket equipments from his shop.

"Chanderpaul took a 2.7lb light weight S.S. bat with a thick bottom. He said he likes the bottom of the bat to be thicker while playing on sub continent wickets as the ball keeps low," said Jasapara.

However, it was Brendan Nash, who loved all the bats. He purchased three G Force bats of 210lb weight.

Grips

West Indies skipper Chris Gayle too liked the grips of the bat and he asked the name of his shop. He jokingly told Jasapara that he should rename his sports shop as Gayle Sports.

Most of the West Indies cricketers use bats made in sub continent.

"The bats available in my shop are made in India and Pakistan, and the English willow bats are of high quality," said Jasapara.

West Indies took ten grips for the bat but Jasapara, as a token of appreciation for having purchased bats from Dubai, presented the grips free of cost.
