India legend Sachin Tendulkar has called for Twenty20 cricket to become an Olympic sport.
The ‘Little Master’, the all-time leading scorer in Tests, has joined Australian great Shane Warne in calling for the sport’s inclusion.
“It's a great idea and I reckon T20 is the best format for it,” Tendulkar, 42, told the BBC.
“It's the most acceptable format for people who don’t have any knowledge about cricket or the ones who need an introduction to cricket.
“The game is over in three hours and it's like any sport – you go to a stadium and after three hours you get back to your work.”
Warne added: “I’d love to see it as an Olympic sport and, who knows, down the track it might be.”
Cricket last featured in the Olympics in 1900 when Great Britain took on France in Paris.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has traditionally been against the idea, but with a number of top cricket administrators coming out in favour, support appears to be gathering.
ICC officials are due to discuss possible inclusion with the International Olympic Committee in November.
