Abu Dhabi: Abdul Qayyum smashed an unbeaten century for Etihad Engineering to ground Etihad Airways in the UBL Twenty20 Cup.

After restricting the airline lads for 154, the engineering staff knocked off the winning runs easily for the loss of one wicket, with more than four overs to spare to get their campaign off to a flying start to the event played at the Zayed Stadium at Abu Dhabi.

Qayyum’s 60-ball 101 not out was highlighted by 10 fours and three sixes, and he featured in a 154-run stand for the first wicket with Zeeshan Khan, who chipped in with 39 off 31 balls and was out when the scores were tied.

Amjad Ali hit a rapid 82 and his UAE teammate Mohammad Naveed grabbed four wickets to lead the sponsor’s team to a resounding 89-run win over Life Line Hospital.

Amjad struck eight fours and a six during his 54-ball stay at the crease. The left-handed opener also starred in two valuable partnerships for UBL to put up 200 for five. He shared a 65-run stand for the opening wicket with Syed Maqsood (34) and 124 for the second wicket with Babar Hussain, who struck 56 from 39 balls studded with five fours and a couple of sixes. Abu Dhabi Airports Company too got their campaign off to a bright start with a 21-run victory over Adyard.
