Dubai: Virender Sehwag, captain of Gemini Arabians in the Masters Champions League, wants to make up for not having played any international matches in Sharjah by hitting sixes there.

Answering a query from Gulf News on how excited is he to play in UAE stadia, Sehwag. much like his typical approach to batting, said: “I am very excited to be playing in the UAE. I’ve never played international matches except a few IPL matches. So I am looking forward to MCL and am very excited to play in Dubai and Sharjah, especially Sharjah where most One Day Internationals have been played. Since I played no international matches in Sharjah, I am excited to play for MCL there and will try and hit the ball out of the park.”

What would be his threatening message to other teams? “My name is enough for other teams, so I don’t need to give any message. I will try to score as many runs as I can try and win matches for Gemini Arabians,” he said.

Sehwag is eager to take on Libra Legends as it will be led by his former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly. “Personally, I am looking forward to the first game (against Libra Legends) as I am playing against Sourav Ganguly. He was my ex-captain and he knows everything about me and I know everything about Sourav, so hopefully that game will go in a good manner and people of UAE will see some competitive cricket on first day.”

When asked about his team combination, Sehwag said: “Our team’s strength will be around our batting with Richard Levi, Kumar Sangakkara, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Brad Hodge and Jacques Rudolph. These are good batsmen and anyone can win the game for the team. In bowling, I have two legends playing with Muttiah Muralitharan and Saqlain Mushtaq - and apart from their spin, we have decent pacers like Graham Onions and Kyle Mills and Rana Naveed. “Hopefully the combination which is going to play will deliver on that day. So everyone has to give their hundred per cent,” he added.
