Dubai: The 12th edition of the Shyam Bhatia awards were presented at a colourful function at the Bhatia's cricket museum in the presence of hundreds of domestic cricketers, cricket council officials, coaches, umpires and supporters of the game.

Kapil Dev, the legendary all-rounder and former Indian captain, gave away the awards to the outstanding domestic cricketers and top umpires.

Nasir Aziz of Eurocon and Yogi Group and Shadeep Silva of New Medical Centre, who bowled UAE to victory in the recent World Cricket League Division Two tournament, received the A Division's top two awards.

Splendid debut

Aziz scored 396 runs and picked 19 wickets to receive the best allrounder award and a cash prize of Dh4,000. His performance had fetched him a place in the UAE team and he made a splendid debut with a four wicket spell.

Silva won the best bowler award bagging 23 wickets. He had bagged 15 wickets in Bukhatir A division league and eight wickets in Abu Dhabi A division event to pocket a cash prize of Dh3,000.

Abdul Rahman of Emirates Cricket Board, who was in scintillating form scoring 530 runs received the best batsman award. He had scored 299 runs in the Abu Dhabi A division tournament and 231 runs in Sharjah's Bukhatir League.

Consistent performer

In the B division event, the consistent C.T.K. Mashood of Nucaf Tellicherry, who picked 36 wickets with his left-arm spin, received the best bowler award.

This former Kerala Ranji Trophy player took 19 wickets in Bukhatir B Division and 17 wickets in Ajman Council tournament.

Ayub Inayat of Ibsons with 500 runs bagged the best batsman award while Zaheer Baig of Nissan with 505 runs and five wickets walked away with the best allrounder award.

Razzak Shah, nominated by Ajman Council, won the best umpire's award for the third time. He had bagged the award in 1998 and 2009 representing Dubai Cricket Council. Shahbaz Ahmad of Abu Dhabi, Bahadur Ali Khan of Dubai and Arshad Ansari of Sharjah were adjudged the best umpires by their respective councils.
