Dubai: Jacques Kallis and Hashim Amla cracked centuries to steer South Africa to a commanding position on the fourth day of the first Test at the Dubai Sports City International Cricket Stadium.
Kallis cracked an unbeaten 135 off 218 balls studded with eight boundaries and four sixes while Amla remained unconquered on 118 off 225 balls with ten boundaries. Together they put on 242 runs partnership in 68.1 overs for the third wicket breaking the previous record for the third wicket of 207 runs between Graeme Smith and Kallis at Lahore in 2007.
South Africa declared their innings at 318 for 2 after setting a lead of 450 runs. By tea, Pakistan has made 26 for no loss needing 425 runs to win.
South Africa, commencing from the overnight score of 139 for 2 made the Pakistan bowlers toil hard. Pakistan’s lone pace bowler Umar Gul as well as the spinners made no impression on the batsmen who moved from strength to strength.
